It was supposed to be a solid but comfortable morning session, 23nm approx 6.5hrs. However, a relentless headwind picked up and with all the weight in the back of my boat and rudder down, I was spending bags of energy just trying to keep her facing forwards. I only realised what was going on after 4 or 5 hours. Arrived at the target 9.5 hrs later, grumpy and bedraggled.
I told a guy with a crook about some sheep which were stuck on a beach further round but he wasn’t a shepherd, fooled me.
The next decision was short break and short session or long break then long session. Chose the former which, after a miraculous change in wind direction and a great run past stacks and natural arches, brought me to Rubha Reidh, a youth hostel in a lighthouse.
This was a great chance to check kit and get refreshed before Jes’ departure in the morning.
It’s only dark here for 3 or 4 hours this time of year and the sunsets are spectacular.
Great going Joe.
Stunning picture! Enjoy the scenery and the experience! Bec x
Good effort 🙂 just caught up with the blog, sounds like you’re meeting lots of great people and generating some good stories to tell when you get back!
